CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

Tapa Tapa Restaurant and Bar, La Rambla, Barcelona, Spain

It was hard for Rose to concentrate on the text from the book with Elvis slurping, but she knew he was trying his best to distract her and she wasn’t going to fall for his bait. Therefore, she read the words over and over again from Finding Your Angels, trying to find something that would help her find her guardian angel. She looked intently for any clue that struck a chord with her, telling Rose some place to look.

Elvis chomped loudly on a breadstick, like he was intentionally trying to use bad manners.

Rose sighed, turning the page of the book, not having really read it.

“Have you found anything on this supposed helpful person?” he asked.

“No, but I’m apparently not good at finding helpful individuals,” she muttered, scanning the text.

“Is that jab intended for me?” he asked, diving back into the pitcher of sangria for more.

“Do you think that you’re being especially helpful right now?” she countered.

He burped and nodded. “Have you thought about looking in chapter twelve on page one-hundred and twenty-two?”

Rose blinked at him across the table, like trying to decide if he was being serious or messing with her.

“Two and a half paragraphs down, third to sixth last sentences from the end,” Elvis continued and then waved her off. “But I’m just guessing on the approximation.”

Rose flipped through the book, finding the chapter, page and paragraph that he was referring to. She leaned forward, something catching her interest immediately. Aloud she read from the book, Finding Your Angels. “In my experience, it usually takes a life endangering situation for a guardian angel to show themselves. Being close to the element that they revealed during imprinting enriches the likelihood that they’ll show themselves. But also, being close to a holy place intensifies the effects.”

Rose jerked her head up, giving Elvis a look of disbelief. “How did you know about this section?”

He shrugged. “You sleep a lot. I get bored. And your snoring keeps me awake…a lot.”

“I usually can’t fall asleep because of your late-night snacking,” she complained, continuing to scan the page, but not finding anything else of relevance. Rose flipped back to the page. “But seriously, when did you find this? When were you going to tell me?”

“Now,” he answered, picking up his half-drunk glass of sangria and taking another swig. “You’re in the place where the elements revealed to you from the imprinting are.” He held his tiny arm out to La Rambla. “Are we not in Barcelona, Spain, the place that you were strangely and randomly obsessed with when you were at the age when a guardian angel imprints?”

“Well, yeah,” Rose answered. “But the other part seems really relevant. I need to put myself in a life endangering experience while being here in Barcelona, Spain? What does that mean?”

“Fight a bull!” he cheered, clapping his hands together. “Fight a bull!”

Rose shook her head. “They don’t do that here and I wouldn’t even if I could.”

“It makes sense though,” Elvis stated.
